Alaina Whitaker auditioned in Dallas, Texas for season seven of American Idol, where
she sang a rendition of, "Stronger", by Faith Hill. Alaina received her golden ticket and moved onto the Hollywood Rounds. She
performed, "Until You Come Back To Me", by Stevie Wonder, and she successfully proved to the judges that she
deserved to be in this competition. As she moved onto the Top 24, it was the first week where the contestants
had to perform in front of a live audience. Alaina chose, "More Today Than Yesterday", by Spiral Staircase as
her first pick to start off the season. The performance wowed the judges and solidified her spot next week.
20 contestants remained, and she chose, "Hopelessly Devoted", from one of her favourite movies Grease, originally
sung by Olivia Newton-John. This performance left the judges swaying towards both ways, some liked it but others
didn't. The next day, Whitaker was eliminated from the show as the Top 19th Semi-Finalist, to this day known as the biggest shocker of Season 7.
As her emotional leave left a mark on all of America, it proved that she really deserved to be there and Paula
Abdul told her that it wasn't over, she would become a big star someday. But before Idol even
happened, Alaina was just a normal high school student, a Junior at Metro Christian Academy.
She was the Captain of her Pom Squad, ran Track and played Water Polo. She was born on
February 21, 1992 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and began singing at the age of 4. She has performed at festivals
throughout Oklahoma, and at the United Nations Embassy in Vienna, Austria, at age 7. Alaina and her sister Brittney are very well-known in Oklahoma, and they go by The Whitaker Sisters.
They sang at places like the Mayfest in Tulsa, the Pecan Festival in Okmulgee, the
Bluegrass/Chili Festival in Claremore and out-of-state festivals such as Bransonfest in
Missouri and the Bella Vista Fall Festival in Arkansas. Alaina and Brittney are repeatedly
asked to sing the National Anthem at Talons, Oilers and Drillers games as well as before
basketball games at Oral Roberts University and the University of Tulsa. They have performed
at famous Nashville spots like the Nashville Palace, ‘Tootsies’ Lounge and Loretta Lynn’s
ranch. Alaina Whitaker recently won a competition, "My Big Break", sponsored by Reasor’s
where the grand prize was an all-expenses paid trip to the next American Idol audition, $5000, a chance to record a 3-song CD and
a spot singing the National Anthem at the 2007 Country Fever concert in Pryor, Oklahoma. As a child, she hoped to become a veterinarian and a country-music singer someday. Her mothers' name is
Lana Whitaker, her Grandmother is Norma Reneau and her sister is Brittney Whitaker. Now Alaina Whitaker is continuing her
career to become a big country-music star, so we'll just have to wait and see what the future holds for our girl!
